My Ears Have Had an Upgrade!

Or rather my hearing has. Yesterday, it was a week since I had hearing aids fitted, and I just wanted to share with you, what the last week has been like for me.

I had them fitted at RESONATE last Monday, and I’ve got to say my world immediately sounded different, especially my own voice, which sounded tinny to me until I got used to it.

As I walked back to the shop after having them fitted, I could clearly hear the leaves rustling across the road, a sound I hadn’t even realised I hadn’t heard for a long time. I could hear the trees rustling, and I found myself grinning from ear to ear as I heard more and more sounds, that had once been familiar but were now new and fresh.

Once back at the shop, I found myself looking around for the source of sounds, feeling a bit confused when I couldn’t identify the source, and then discovering it was just an ordinary sound I heard all the time, but this time it was much louder.

The sound of my fingers hitting the keys of my computer, or rather the sound of the keys as my fingers hit them, was and still is, much louder than previously. The same with tapping the alarm pin pad at home and at the shop.

One of the best sounds came on that first afternoon when I got home. I was in the kitchen and I heard a bird chatting so loudly; I swung around as I thought it had flown inside, but it was coming from the backyard. 😊

At today’s appointment with Theresa, we connected my phone to my hearing aids, and I learnt how to drive that. She also took me through some of the things I can do to improve my hearing in different noisy situations using the Resonate APP. I haven’t tried them yet but will over the next week.

Peter’s POV so far…

Peter is loving that the Telly is now at normal hearing levels, and I’m also loving that I no longer have to use captions, because I was missing out on so many words.

He's also loving that I'm now, as of today, able to Bluetooth my phone to my hearing aids, which means I can watch/listen to TikTok while he’s watching telly or reading in bed, and it doesn’t affect him.

Peter is also loving that I’m not constantly asking him to repeat himself. 😊

Theresa (pictured here with me) and Ellen (the audiologist) have been so great to deal with, and its so good knowing that if there are any issues I can call them and make a time to go in and check my aids.

Namaste

Michelle
