How to Create an Altar

I was asked recently how I create an altar, and I actually had to stop and think, as once upon a time I had a portable altar that I would create and take out to the spa at 5am, and do my meditation in there before getting ready for work.

These days I don’t have a spa, and I get up at around 5am so I can walk to the shop. Which means that my meditation is done in bed before I get up, or I do a walking meditation as I travel to work.

Almost every room in our home has gatherings of crystals in them, that I can easily turn into altars if I want to. Typing this is actually giving me quite a bit of food for thought around that. Playing with my crystals on a regular basis is a wonderful mindfulness, rather like creating a fairy crystal garden, but that’s another story…

Irah, however, is an Altar Goddess, and I know that The Book of Altars and Sacred Spaces is one of her fav’s, which is why I decided to order it in. ‘Your Altar’ by Sandra Kynes and ‘Sanctuary of Your Own’ by Caroline Dow are a couple of other new titles that I thought you might find helpful when creating your sacred space or meditation altar.
