This Is My Happy Place: Saturday Mornings With My Husband
Peter and I have a little Saturday ritual that includes...
* Taking Archie for a walk
* Brunch at a local cafe, here or Feilding (we mix it up because we like to share the love)
* Some op shopping
We really enjoy op shopping, and while Peter’s mainly looking for books, I’m usually looking for glass dishes to display crystals in at the shop, and I also like to scan the racks for interesting clothes.
Yesterday we had brunch at ‘Coffee on the Terrace’, https://www.facebook.com/CoffeeOnTheTerrace/ one of our favourites, where the food is lovely, and the service is great. The young woman who usually makes our coffee and hot chocolate, is helpful and friendly, and always has a smile on her face. I said to Peter “you can tell she enjoys her job.”
For me, the vibe of a place is as important as the food, and that applies to any form of retail for me. The people who work in retail are a big part of making that vibe enjoyable (or not).
I think that for most of us, our money is hard-earned, and we want to enjoy the experience of spending it, as much as whatever we’re buying, whether it's from a cafe, an op shop or any other form of retail.
Yesterday, we visited three op shops, including the Hospice Shop in Palmy, where I found something I didn’t know I needed until that moment. I was actually looking for a tin or container to keep Archie’s bedtime treats in on my bedside cabinet, which I didn’t find, but I did find a butter dish.
I saw it and said to Peter “this would be much better than having the butter sit in the cupboard in its wrapper or a plastic container, but it’s so boring."
Peter’s tongue in cheek response was “you could always put stickers on it.” And after I stopped laughing, I thought hmmm...
So, we left the Hospice Op Shop with a boring (for now) butter dish for $5, and three rather gorgeous summer tops that also cost $5 each. Peter nearly bought a hat, but talked himself out of it, which is often the case.
Tomorrow, I’ll take my butter dish to the shop and see what I can find to bling it up with.
Happy Sunday...
Namaste
