DESERT ROSE

Desert Roses are a part of the Gypsum/Selenite family and are so-named because of their rose-like formations of crystal clusters of Gypsum or Baryte crystals deposited in circular patterns around grains of sand. They are usually found in arid regions, where the evaporation of water leaves behind the minerals.

They range in size from very small rosettes through to large clusters, and some of the places they are found include the Namib Desert, the Mohave Desert, and the Sahara Desert (where they can grow up to several feet in diameter).
