Grief and Little Ways We Can Support Ourselves As We Navigate Our Way Through It ...
Grief is the emotional and psychological reaction we experience when we lose someone we love, whether it’s a human loved one or a beloved furry friend, and what I know for sure, is that there is no right or wrong way to grieve.
Our experience of grief can be a rollercoaster of emotions, where one moment we feel okay, and the next, we’re feeling overwhelmed with sadness and sometimes anger, anxiety or guilt. It’s important to remember that grief is an individual journey, and that sometimes it can feel very lonely.
When someone we love passes over, our life is turned upside down and inside out, at least that has been my experience…
I want to re-emphasise here, that here’s no ‘correct’ timeframe for the grieving process, just as there’s no ‘right or wrong way’ to grieve, but there are things we can do to help ourselves navigate this part of our life’s journey.
Are you feeling overwhelmed with feelings of grief, and don’t know what to do or where to turn for help?
Do you feel like you’ve been struggling with these feelings for a while?
Are you talking with anyone, whether it’s a counsellor, a trusted family member, a friend, someone from your Church, a healer, or a support group?
Have you thought about creating a little altar to honour your loved one? Where you can sit and be with them.
Are you looking for a little gift to help a friend or family member during this time? Something that will say what we often find hard to express, and show them you’re thinking of them.
It has been my privilege over the last 15 years, to spend a little time with many people, playing a small part in their grief journey, by providing tools and ways to memorialise their loved ones.
I’m always on the lookout for pieces that I feel will help people during this time, and I recently found some beautiful new keepsake memorial pendants to add to our range.
These pendants have a tiny cavity, where you can add a lock of hair or ashes, and can be worn whenever you like. It’s a lovely way to feel close to your loved one, and can be nice to play with when you feel overwhelmed and it can be placed on their altar when you’re not wearing it. A couple of weeks ago, I had a Mum and her beautiful kids come in for pendants for everyone, to hold ashes of their much loved furry family member.
I also found some new tiny memorial urns to add to our range, and these are often bought by families as a way for everyone to have a little bit of their loved one. I recently had a woman come in looking for a tiny urn she could keep some of her husband’s ashes in until she passes, at which time they’ll both be buried together.
We have some beautiful memorial statues and ornaments, and a good range of books to help children and adults work through their grief journey, as well as books that can help us prepare for ‘our time’.
Our Angel Grotto is a beautiful space where, if we allow ourselves, we’ll feel wrapped in loving and supportive energy.
