An Unexpected Messenger: Finding a Morepork on the Way to Work
I had an incredibly moving experience this morning as Archie and I walked to work. We were wandering down Broadway, he’s sniffing, and I’m looking in shop windows, and then I spotted a dead bird in a shop doorway. At first, I thought it was going to be a duck, but when I leaned over it, I realised it was an owl/morepork.
Seeing this little creature took my breath away, and I wept a little at its passing. It was dark, I had Archie on the lead, my bag in my other hand, and nothing to carry her in, but I couldn’t leave her there, so I just picked her up, and cradled her in my hand as we walked to the shop.
At first, I thought Peter and I would bury her at home tonight, but when I showed Viv, she suggested contacting our friend Georgia, who we know will be incredibly respectful, and she will live on in beautiful things Georgia will create with her weaving.
As I walked to the shop, I pondered the significance of finding a deceased owl, and I searched online for answers. I’m a big believer in signs, and I knew this was definitely a sign, but what for?
There’s a lot going on in my world and Peter’s, right now, including an injury that they’re recommending surgery for, a business that’s literally fighting for its survival, and restructuring at Peter’s work, just to name a few.
I sat down at my computer with my feathered friend on my desk, speaking gently to her as I began searching for what the significance of being the one who found her, might be.
Well, that was a bit interesting, and while I could put negative connotations on some of the meanings, that’s not me, and so I focused on those that resonated with me.
Here are some of the key meanings that resonated, and which I’ll sit with over the next wee while…
• The spiritual world is giving me a chance to rewrite my story
• New beginnings are on the way
• I need to blend with changing situations at this time in my life
• It’s a sign of change, and I’m being reminded that nothing is permanent, and I would benefit from opening my mind to embrace change.
• It could also be helping me to avoid making bad choices.
• An opportunity for personal transformation and growth, wisdom, knowledge and rebirth.
• A sign to trust my intuition and be open to new experiences and perspectives
• It suggests that my ancestral spirits are walking with me, guiding me during this time of transformation.
And while I’m sad that this beautiful bird has transitioned, I also know that death is not the end for her, or for us.
I feel incredibly privileged to have found her, and that I’m being given signs that will help me navigate this next part of my journey.
As I type this, I just realised that I wasn’t going to walk Archie this morning, and in fact made the decision last minute…
