Specularite Quartz Point - A Grounded Ray of Focused Light

A single point has long carried the meaning of focus and direction, channelling energy outward from base to tip — and this specularite quartz point brings something extra to that idea, its surface dusted with a crust of crystallised hematite that catches the light in warm, metallic tones. Beneath that textured coating, the quartz itself carries a soft, hazy tint rather than the clear brilliance you might expect, giving the piece a quieter, more grounded presence than a typical clear point. It's an unusual combination — the lively, amplifying nature of quartz held together with the steady, earthy weight of specularite. Turning it in the hand, the contrast between rough, sparkling coating and smooth, softly coloured stone beneath is genuinely striking.

This point suits anyone drawn to focus that stays grounded rather than scattered. Quartz has long been valued for sharpening intention and amplifying energy, while specularite — a crystallised form of hematite — carries a more centring, steadying quality. Together, the pairing feels less like two competing energies and more like a natural balance: clear-headed direction held within something solid and settled. It's a piece well suited to quiet, focused work, or simply as a grounding point to return to during a busy day.

Some of the Healing & Metaphysical Properties

Specularite quartz is traditionally associated with the following properties:

  • Amplified grounding: Combines quartz's natural amplifying quality with specularite's steadying, earthy presence, believed to support focused energy that stays grounded rather than scattered.
  • Clarity and focus: Associated with sharpening mental clarity while anchoring attention, particularly useful during scattered or overstimulated periods.
  • Protective presence: Traditionally regarded as a protective stone, believed to create a stabilising energetic boundary around the person who carries it.
  • Energetic centring: Believed to help draw scattered energy back into the body, particularly after periods of overwhelm or anxiety.
  • Spiritual connection with balance: Quartz's traditional link to higher awareness is balanced here by specularite's grounding influence, suiting meditation that stays connected to daily life.
  • Emotional steadiness: Supports a settled, calm state of mind during stress or uncertainty.
  • Chakras and zodiac: Bridges the Root and Crown chakras — grounding through hematite's traditional root association while amplifying awareness through quartz's crown connection — and is traditionally associated with Aries and Capricorn.

How You Can Use Your Point

  • Grounding focus tool: Hold your point during moments of overwhelm, using its weight and texture as a steadying anchor.
  • Meditation companion: Sit with your point during meditation, letting its tip guide focused attention while its base keeps you grounded.
  • Desk presence: Keep your point on a desk or workspace as a quiet reminder to stay both focused and steady.
  • Intention setting: Hold your point while setting an intention, drawing on quartz's amplifying quality to support clear direction.
  • Grid centrepiece: Use your point as a grounding anchor point within a wider crystal grid.
  • Collector's piece: Display your point where its unusual texture and colouring can be appreciated up close.

Appearance & Specs

This quartz point is coated across much of its surface with a textured, granular crust of reddish-brown specularite — a crystallised form of hematite — giving it a rough, sparkling finish quite different from a typical clear quartz point. Beneath this coating, the quartz body itself carries a soft, hazy pale pink-grey tone rather than clear transparency, a natural characteristic of this material rather than a flaw. The point tapers to a natural termination, with the specularite coating most concentrated along the crystal faces and edges.

  • What you'll receive: This is the piece you will receive.
  • Dimensions: 6.7 x 1.6 x 1.8 cm (H x W x D) All weights and measurements are approximate.
  • Colour: A soft, hazy pale pink-grey quartz body beneath a reddish-brown, metallic-toned specularite coating.
  • Care: The specularite coating is delicate and can flake or dull with excessive handling or water contact, so wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth only and avoid soaking. Cleanse with moonlight, smoke, or sound rather than water.

The Geology

This point combines quartz, a silicon dioxide mineral, with specularite — a coarsely crystalline, high-lustre form of hematite (iron oxide) that forms as flat, plate-like or granular crystals rather than fine dust. When hematite crystallises directly onto the faces of a growing quartz crystal, it produces this textured surface coating, distinct from the fine internal inclusions seen in typical hematoid or "fire" quartz. This particular combination is well documented in quartz from Inner Mongolia, where specularite commonly forms alongside quartz in the same mineral-rich environment. The quartz body's soft, non-transparent tone likely reflects fine trace mineral influence during formation, though the precise cause can vary between specimens.

Things You Might Want to Know

  • Is this the same as Hematoid or Fire Quartz? Not quite — Hematoid or Fire Quartz typically has fine hematite inclusions distributed through a clear quartz body, while this piece carries a textured surface coating of specularite (crystallised hematite), a related but visually and structurally different presentation.

One more attempt will be made to deliver your order, after that you will be required to pick it up from your nearest NZ Couriers office. Please make sure you bring ID with you when picking up the parcel, otherwise it will not be released.

Under normal circumstances your order will be dispatched within 2 business days and arrive within a week, often sooner. Please note that your order may be sent in more than one parcel.

Dispatch and delivery days are Monday to Friday.

Please be aware that some isolated regions may require additional delivery time. If this is the case for your area we will notify you of this prior to processing your order. We cannot deliver to Post Office Boxes or Private Boxes. We do not deliver outside New Zealand, however orders may still be placed from overseas with a New Zealand delivery address.
